Many Victorian era functional brick bridges are still in situ spanning an abandoned railway line that runs from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace and Mill Hill in North London.
This particular one is situated next to Highgate Wood, fenced off from public. When painting this scene I felt a little uneasy standing by the dark bridge arches and I was glad to get back out into the open!
Still, it is places such as this that fascinate me, with their austere coloured brickwork and overgrown foliage, tired looking arches and semi obscured trackbed, ghostly remnants from an earlier age.
